Problem:
Design a 200sq. ft. kitchen suitable for a handicapped single parent and their two teenage daughters in Seattle, Washington. Design a place that accommodates eating, conversation, television, and studying.
Solution:
This design is based around a central counter space and bar area. This counter houses most of the utilities and allows for face to face conversation at all times. The wall behind the center counter houses more storage, the oven, a television and the refrigerator. All utilities are handicapped accessible as well as adult friendly. There are three eating/ study areas: a bar, a table and an outdoor dining area. All doors are double doors and all paths are four feet wide with proper kick space needed for wheelchair use.
