Problem:
RouteMe was originally a three-week wayfinding exercise aimed to help first time visitors to KU (The University of Kansas) find parking. However, as the project progressed, the graduate team discovered a greater user need, namely the interior navigation of buildings.
Solution:
Parking presents several challenges. Nonetheless, most issues may be solved by using conventional navigation tools such as GPS technology or Google maps to aid people. While asking current students (expert users) about their experience on campus we found out about the lack of navigation tools to aid users in finding classes and offices inside of buildings. This revelation transformed the exercise into a semester long project of an interior navigation application development.
Through user interviews and testing, RouteMe has a strong brand identity and has been completely developed on how people interact with prototypes.
The app RouteMe is currently in its third iteration prototype and is still in the process of being developed into a working app.
My Part:
I conducted user interviews, developed the personas for KU parking, brainstormed, tested the prototypes, helped generate the prototypes, compiled the information for the website, helped to organize presentations and data, narrated the videos, and was the team’s spokes person.
